Quinncent McManning, Jr. Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Yep. Our game with Florida a year ago definitely tells me how we will perform against Tennessee this year. Quote

HawkDriver Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Yeah, love Spurrier, but I really hope our program in general to include people in attendance have this game circled. Quote
4thandFive Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Spurrier wouldn’t pick Texas over an intramural flag football team. 4 Quote
LonghornFan4Ever Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Steve Spurrier is the type of person to pick Jones Junior High to beat Texas. Quote

Moderators Gerry Hamilton Posted September 24 Moderators Posted September 24 History of Spurrier and Texas He wanted the Texas job while at Duke (prior to UF) I think is the timeline … Texas told him he didn’t have enough skins on the wall Then when Mackovic was fired Bob Stoops wanted a shot at Texas… Spurrier pushed for him … Texas told Stoops he didn’t have enough skins on the wall So essentially Spurrier was correct twice. And he’s been needling Texas ever since - wrong or right 5 Quote

I remember the story when he went to the Redskins and didn't know that offense and defense had to practice together because they didn't have enough players to practice separately. Given that he played in the NFL, that seems far fetched, but when you're fixated on gimmicks, you get squirrelly. Quote
watty7796 Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Spurrier pulling a spurrier. Always sayin something to get a look. He has always been jealous of Texas...cant remember one positive thing he has ever said about the Horns.... 1 Quote

If true we passed on him and Stoops, maybe Deloss was not as sharp as we thought. Don't think Mack was his first choice either. Edited September 24 by Beldar 1 Quote

Hookem72 Posted September 24 Posted September 24 It seems like a lot of people are picking Tennessee to beat us. That’s what this team needs right now. A bunch of doubt and hate to make them prove people wrong and that Ohio State wasn’t a fluke. Because that is what people want to believe—that we lucked into the win at home and we are overrated. I want to prove them all wrong. Quote

And he’s been needling Texas ever since - wrong or right Can you imagine if Mackovic had never been at Texas? He was such a bad coach, stuck up, and not a leader of Texas. We may have had the visor and more wins but no Ricky probably. What a different trajectory we would’ve had if either one of those guys had ended up here. Bottom line Johnny Mack was the wrong guy. Asked a guy that would know that timeline. McWilliams is a great guy and a Texas guy all the way but he had fewer skins than spurrier. Makes sense that Steve was butt hurt by that. Quote
