AustinsTruth Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago We have a coach that just said 3 weeks ago he was brought here to win, and even Saturday said he was hired because he was a good offensive play caller. He is being paid over $11 million dollars this year and was given an offensive roster that he hand picked that is worth probably around 10-15 million dollars...Then in a rivalry game, on 4th and 2 in the 4th quarter, he thinks it's acceptable to say we didn't have a play that he was more confident would be successful than a 52 yard field goal attempt. I don't think anyone thought the kicker was gonna make that kick, I sure didn't. To go to the press and say you don't have an answer to get 2 yards just shows how he has no feel for the game during the game. You have a top 5 offensive roster in the entire country, you are supposed to be a top 5 OC, you have had a bottom tier offense for 3 straight years, to say that you are good at calling plays still is just ignorant. Something has to change or 2023 is the ceiling. 3 1 1 1 Quote
Alex Butler Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago In a game like this you kick it. It was close but let’s not forget our defense answered the bell and got us the ball back and Spetic just barely missed that. 2 Quote
Moderators Jeff Howe Posted 4 hours ago Moderators Posted 4 hours ago Field goal was my third choice. 1. Punt, play defense and play to get the ball last. Worst case, you take it to overtime. 2. Go for it 3. Field goal 9 Quote
Moderators Jeff Howe Posted 4 hours ago Moderators Posted 4 hours ago For me, in the OU game and that environment changes the calculus. The momentum shift of a missed FG or a failed fourth down could break your back. Punt, play defense and force OU to execute coming off its goal line. 2 Quote

Especially knowing your kicker has hit from that distance already this year. What if you punt and it's a touchback? You gained a whopping 15 yards in field position. If you have that much faith in your defense, which we do, it's even more reason to go for it because defending from your own 35 shouldn't scare you. 1 1 Quote

LOL Missed field goal felt like a guarantee to me. I doubt I am alone in that. Either way, with how much the donors bought for the offense, including the coach, you should be able to get 2 yards. If you can't, at least they have to go 7 yards further. I felt like there was no chance that the kick was gonna be made. Quote

Mark Futrell Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Say what you want; the fact of the matter is that we should have never put the kicker in that position. Never! Go back through the sequence of plays and walk it through play by play just in that sequence. Should have never come to a 52 yard field goal. Quote

I thought play calling/sequencing was greedy all game. The only chance Oklahoma had was creating havoc and big plays on defense/special teams. To come out and throw it a ton just increases their chances to make those plays. Could've ran it every play, scored 10 points and won 10-3. 1 Quote
hookem1014 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago If he went for it there’s a pretty high chance he calls a play action roll out for Arch that takes 5 seconds to develop and turns into a sack. I’d also have to end up buying a new TV. Quote

Never would have thought we would have blown that lead. As so many have said, we gave them that game. I think that is what hurts the most. If it was a tight game the whole time like in 08, I could accept the loss. But knowing Texas was the better team and just messed around until they scored enough points to win is the worst. 4thandFive Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I think I’d rather have punted. Either way…our QB gave away the game. Pick Six and INT when we were driving for a FG. Just disappointed. Quote

I mean, it's been multiple years of the offense being bad. It's not some complicated thing either, it's obvious what the issues are. Demanding improvement is required to win anything in this sport, refusing to do it means you will get passed, rapidly. Quote
watty7796 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago While the debate of what should have been done in this particular situation noone has mentioned that given the talent and expectations this offense has...should have never been this close to start with. For the multiple 3 and outs, turnovers, etc Texas gave this game to BlowU. They came in unprepared period. Probably the worst performance this season. Quote
Waxahorn Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago In my opinion a team that is preparing for a championship year must have a few plays in their bag that they have confidence in to gain 2 yards. 1 Quote

Thorn007 Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago (edited) 19 seconds left we let them complete 2 sideline passes to get in fg range. A lil blame goes there. Cowboyesque Edited 2 hours ago by Thorn007 Quote
Big Tex Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Absolutely would not trust this punter. He has the slowest kicking motion I've seen in some time and the blocking has been abysmal. I think kicking the FG was the right call and the kicker was damned close. Quote
