Super insightful.

My point is that I don't trust Vogel's reporting on this. There's an injury issue here, so don't tell your readership that there's nothing to see here.

Is the populace losing trust in your reporting CJ @CJ Vogel?  What say you?  Closetojumping seems to have doubts.

No need to throw more gasoline on the fire but I respect opposing views and CJs reporting. CJ consistently expresses honest opinions and provides facts to support his thinking. Some may disagree with him at times but we are all Longhorns.

I like CJs reporting myself, and even if I didn't I wouldn't state it on here.  Like you, I don't always agree with everything Bobby, Gerry, CJ, etc., have to say as far as opinions are concerned, but that is different than slighting their abilities.

Differing opinions are what makes message boards more fun. You shouldn’t take them personal or attack others because they have different opinions. If this place was one giant echo chamber with everyone conforming and lamenting the same points it would be a quite boring place.

Two areas I think we improve in for this game versus the Cotton Bowl are giving up TFLs and Passes Deflected.

Arch should be able to clean both of these up with his height in the pocket and athleticism. I see sacks as a different story... if the pocket collapses, the pocket collapses. OTs can get beat. But Arch's athleticism should help him escape TFLs and his ability to spread the field should help the run game negate this issue.

Sonny Styles ate us alive in these two categories... 3 TFL, 1 PD, 1 Sack

We gave up 9 TFLs, 6 PDs, 4 Sacks. Gotta improve there

Agreed. Other names contributing depending on formational subs will be Liona Lefau at linebacker and Brad Spence at edge.

That's actually a good topic for @Gerry Hamilton @Bobby Burton and @CJ Vogel. What position groups on the team have gotten better, worse or are treading water from where they were at the Cotton Bowl earlier this year. I'll go first:

QB - Treading water. I think Arch has a higher ceiling but third start vs. Quinn's last game at Texas you have to call at best a push.

RB - Treading water. For better or worse the staff decided to roll with our roster from last season. It'll be a heavy dose of Wisner and some smaller percentages of Baxter and Clark. Losing Blue's production from the Cotton Bowl also hurts.

WR - Downgrade from the Cotton Bowl. Golden alone gives the 2024 squad the advantage. Moore is Moore. Wingo can unseat Golden for sure this season but he hasn't done it yet.

TE - Downgrade. Edge to Helm at this point over Endries.

OL - Downgrade. Gotta go 2024 until we see what's up with this new OL arrangement. So many mixed reports from camp about DL all over the backfield. We really won't know until Columbus, but I'll take Banks, Majors and Williams as known the known commodity.

DT - Push. We are much deeper now but i'm not sure any two of the current DT stack up to Collins and Broughton as a pure duo on the field yet.

Edge - IMPROVEMENT! Gotta love the depth and development here. A big advantage over the Cotton Bowl.

LB - IMPROVEMENT! Another year of Ant. More supporting cast around him. Looking really good here.

DB - Push. Hard to not say it's a downgrade when you lose Makuba and Barron, but we seem stacked with options and another offseason with Manny in a possible contract year, another offseason with a hugely motivated Taaffe, and development from the youth movement around them and I think this is a push with potential to be a better position group by year's end.

SPECIAL TEAMS - HUGE UPGRADE.

I'd also like to see a huge upgrade from kickoff and punt returns this season. Might as well start with a game breaker in Columbus.

Current Roster excluding walk ons

Seniors: DJ Campbell (5 Star), Cole Hudson (4 Star)

Juniors: Connor Roberson (3 Star), Neto Umeozulu (4 star)

Sophomore: Brandon Baker (5 Star), Jaydon Chatman (4 Star), Andre Cojoe (3 Star), Trevor Goosby (4 Star), Connor Stroh (3 Star)

Freshman: Nick Brooks (4 Star), Jackson Christian (3 Star), Devin & Jordan Coleman (3 Stars), Daniel Cruz (4 Star), Nate Kibble (4 Star)

Incoming class: John Turntine (4 Star), Nicolas Robertson (3 Star), Max Wright (3 Star)

Transferred out: Malik Agbo, Payton Kirkland, Sawyer Gorman-Welch

Information was based on 24/7

I feel like Kyle Flood has a respectable OL pipeline and that there is enough talent on campus to protect Arch and have a quality run game. However, the argument could be made that we are thin at tackle and Flood has landed less elite prospects since the fantastic pancake factory class. Time will tell and imo will really depend upon OL evaluations as no brainer recruits are hard to find and expensive.

Just comparing to cotton bowl WR would be improvement.  Golden injured his foot and missed a chunk of time and also wasn’t moving well when he came back.

You’re right, Cotton Bowl wasn’t great. It’ll be interesting to see how the current WR compare to this production this year:

Golden 2 for 51

Moore 4 for 31

Bolden 1 for 24

Wingo 1 for 22

Bond 1 for 8
