Seriously what is the point of having rules if you can just appeal them. Might as well just start bringing NFL players back to college and take it to the courts if the NCAA says they’re ineligible

The CFP committee should just say if Sorsby plays, Tech cannot make the playoffs. Simple as that.

No, the NCAA can’t ban Tech from the playoff over something that happened before he ever got there. That’s not how their bylaws work.

But they don’t need to. The NCAA has a much simpler hammer: if he’s ruled ineligible and Tech plays him anyway, every game he steps on the field becomes a forfeiture. That’s the real leverage, and it applies no matter what county courthouse tries to protect him.

In enters Cody Campbell and a bag of cash. This still doesn't fix the root issue in that whenever I see my team do something absolutely boneheaded that I won't question if there was gambling happening.

The corrupting aspect of this will not go unnoticed. More teams are gonna break the rules in various ways less serious than gambling and expect to go unpunished.

The NCAA should file an injunction saying they will face imminent and irreparable damage if Sorsby plays this year.

This is the question all of us should be asking. I asked on C&F this morning but the chat was crazy because of the news. Besides gambling, now the rev share agreement”rules” do not apply. Players can claim “damage” if they don’t get the package they want. Teams can pay well above the 20m range now. I suggest UT consider this before they lose their recruits to Tech. Schools now know they can get a judge to get them out of anything.

A lot of GAs and “walk ons” about to make some serious cash this season if this holds. Like someone on a livestream said how quickly are assistant coaches or someone gonna just bet on player catches and force feed them the ball to make some NIL cash. Just way too much insider stuff capable of going on with this player prop sites

I’m sure they’re going to appeal to get it out of west Texas courts, but could they ban tech and Sorsby from participating in post season activities? I can’t believe we’re at this stage in college sports where this is even happening.

Yes I agree it’s a horrible precedent being set if it stands. My hope is that this precipitates rapid change in college sports and how teams, players, coaches, and schools are governed and disciplined for infractions.

Thinking this might lead to 1) an expedited SEC/Big10 super conference with its own enforcement of rules, and 2) the guaranteed exclusion of Texas Tech from the list of teams that are added to the conference.
