But this isn't "new". He knew the rules and risks and he wants a different punishment. What if the NCAA comes back and says OK the punishment was too much. He can only play in half the games. Or can't participate in the post-season (a common punishment for team violations). Are we good or is everyone forced to follow the "whatever the court says" in these future scenarios?

Nobody is saying that we don't want this person to get treatment and be better but this ruling essentially says the NCAA has zero authority to enforce their own rules.

The judge's ruling and this statement make it sound like the NCAA was gonna send Sorsby to prison. Maybe he'll be sad!! oh no!!

How bad is Will Hammond where you are willing to torch everything to get Sorsby to play for a single season? Sure they will be out $5-6 million but that's the risk you take.

At this point let them play us in week 1 without sorsby and we beat them like a government mule. I know I know it’s not gonna happen. But to have the entire country on Texas side for once would be juicy.

1) Texas Tech didn't fund the lawsuit? Did Texas Tech pay Sorsby millions in Texas Tech Cafeteria dine in credits or USD?

2) There actually is an absolutely perfect solution: Sorsby doesn't play another down of college football. The only ones that don't think so are those with rooting interests in Texas Tech.

They beat Abilene Christian by 1 point the last time the played. Wouldn't be shocked if Tech struggles with the weight of the college football world on their shoulders. I wouldn't be shocked if Tech has a really bad season, JV Joey isn't the type of coach that is going to rally the troops when things go bad.

The dangerous fallacy in all this is Tech’s separation of the disease from Sorsby’s responsibility for his actions. It’s a completely enabling mindset. If an alcoholic kills someone while driving under the influence, they don’t get to escape the consequences because of their addiction.
