Jbro52 Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago I think we are going to miss TY Smith, Cryer doesn’t have the side line to side line speed in coverage but in Muschamp we trust 2 Quote
Guts Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago I know this was about passing, but I was more concerned about the run defense. I feel like we didn’t get great push by our d-line and that’s not good. 3 Quote
Triplettjoseph Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago One thing that is hard to judge on these games is truly how hard the team is going especially the D Line. Heavy rotation, probably not going 100%, limited exotics, blitzes, etc. This should help our secondary next week Quote
Jerky Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago (edited) Our secondary looked better than last season. The emerging Kobe Black and Jonah Williams along with the experience and talent of Jelani McDonald solidified the safety position. Good to have Gideon back coaching the safety position. Phillips got the most snaps at CB and held up well, only a ticky tack call went against him when the ref was at a bad angle to see the interactions imo. CB Roberson quietly had a pretty good day. CB Mascoe had tackling issues. His coverage was OK but TXSt was just a bit better at times. NB Littleton is proven at NB and had a big play. CB Mathews played sparingly but he looks the part. Biles has the athleticism and ball skills to be an asset in pass coverage or effecting the QB blitzing. Areas of concern in pass defense. Cryer doesn't have the quickness or speed or change of direction to be a good cover LB. I'm not a fan of moving Colin from rushing the passer at Edge to playing off ball LB. AusMOJO Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Well put it this way, if those same miscues show up next week, Ohio State will turn those in to TD's. Muschamp will know this. They'll also probably blitz more and get after Sayin. Not even sure how many sacks we had against Texas State, felt like 1 but it could've been more. Quote

We need to continue to have the short yardage stuffing d line we’ve had the past few years. Edited 13 hours ago by hookem1014 Quote

Dude might a piece of sh*t but man that dude could just not be blocked or stopped. Even in the league he was hard to stop. Quote

But I consider him to be great so expect a lot. And the fact of the quick throws, so expect more of that Sat. We have to pressure all night period. This is a new D so I give the Secondary a B. Saw good and areas we have to clean up. But that's expected. Now it's getting the right personnel for OSU. Can't say how huge this game is. A must win to me considering our schedule. Expect one hell of a game. Cannot lose to them 3 times in a row , so no excuses. Well not only do you expect him to be great, he's being paid a pretty penny for it, too. He wasn't terrible but I just expected to see him dominating better. Hope we see it against Ohio State. 1 Quote

I know it's only week 1 but I was expecting more from them. Heat is also a factor but still. Texas State didn’t accidentally stumble into yards - they straight‑up moved our front more than they should’ve. Everybody wants to talk about the passing game, but the run defense was the part that actually made me sit up. Our DL wasn’t denting the line, wasn’t striking consistently, and way too often they were catching blocks instead of delivering the first blow. Edges were soft, too. They got reach blocks on our DEs like it was a walkthrough. Outside zone, split zone, wide splits - Texas State basically said “let’s make Texas defend space,” and our front didn’t compress it. Young LBs flashed, but the fits weren’t clean, and when your DL isn’t giving you knock‑back, that problem gets magnified. Yeah, they only scored 7, but don’t kid yourself - they moved the ball because they won leverage. That’s the part that doesn’t translate well when you start playing teams with actual RBs and OLs. If we don’t get more violent at the point of attack, better teams will punish that. Texas State actually outrushed us. 2 1 Quote

So I'm sure if we're seeing it, Muschamp is seeing it, too. I was just a bit surprised by that, considering the positive reports we heard about the DL. 1 Quote
PaulieD Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago (edited) 11 hours ago, Jeff Howe said: If I were grading the pass defense, I'd give it an A-minus. The good outweighed the bad. Still, it'll be a different world against Ohio State. Is this when Jeremiah Smith finally has a big game against Texas? Run & Shoot offenses (sorry if terminology is wrong) will always bring out the good and the bad in a secondary. They are constantly on the clock, being challenged. Against osu we need DL penetration (will they ever call holding?), and Biles disrupting the pocket will help limit J Smith and company. Edited 5 hours ago by PaulieD Quote
PaulieD Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago I understand the concern and angst over the DL play, I really do, but - it was the first game. This was in fact a dress rehearsal game, so to speak. We have some very talented coaches who will fine-tune this Ferrari of a team that we have, and then we can see how truly good we are. I'm actually glad that the DL ran into what seemed to be a well coached OL in the first game. Time to coach them up and get them fired up, frothing at the mouth. HookEm. 1 Quote
Jarveaux Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago (edited) I have no concerns or apprehensions just appreciate the way our team played . First half alone sark played over 50 different players. Anxiously awaiting Ohio State game. Edited 4 hours ago by Jarveaux Quote
Raistlin Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago DL play was fine. We played a light box to focus on stopping the SWTS passing game. Mission accomplished. Pro QB Jackson was held to 6 yards and change per attempt; 8 yards per attempt is the standard. Our pass rush focused on containing Jackson. We lost contain once and you saw what happened. Anytime you play a light box, it is inevitable that you will give up some rushing yards. tOSU gave up 150 yards to us last year with a light box and they had a very good defense. So, I’m not worried about our DL. Anytime we needed to stuff their run, we stuffed their run. 1 Quote

On Jackson's long run, Biles blitzed on the offense's right side and got pushed up the field just like Collin was all day. The DE on that end looped inside a little and the guard sealed him. Then our DBs all playing man left the right side of the field wide open. The great scrambler that Jackson is took advantage of our bad rush integrity and coverage scheme. 1 Quote

And that style of offense naturally opens up the middle of the field, which makes it conducive to hitting big run plays between the tackles. If Texas had game-planned more than it otherwise did, it might've been a different story. Regardless, I'd expect Texas to play the run much differently against Ohio State. Quote

I'm thankful it was so hot they were having to break tempo to sub some of their guys as well. If this was a cool day, I can only imagine how fast they would be going. Quote

Also, I was impressed with the fact that Texas didn't have any penalties for substitution infractions. The operation was fairly clean, considering the circumstances. 1 Quote

I didn't think we would hold them to 7 points, but I also certainly didn't think we would give up 160 yards on the ground. The Texas State OL was massive and I was fairly impressed that they played tough the entire 4 quarters in that heat. Quote
