Bobby Burton Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago I think Sark believes it's the explosive downfield plays. I'm not sure this team can execute those with the regularity of something that would also be described as bread and butter. What can they rely on every series or in crunch time? 2 Quote
Tex CJ-7 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago (edited) I think the “stinger” is the weaponry individuals possess. Each individual would have a different “stinger”. Arch may be excellence throwing long or utilization of the legs. Simmons, pass rush. Biles freelance. Wingo YAC…etc OL…hmmm…bull fighting? Edited 4 hours ago by Tex CJ-7 2 Quote

What do you think a "stinger" is? 2.) What is Texas' stinger? I heard it was a shoulder injury and Texas’ stinger is Ryan Wingo. Quote
ChanmanV Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Did he mean "stinker"? In seriousness, probably the deep post and seam routes. Don't know of anything else that would be considered effective against the defense so far. 3 Quote

Jaybird Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago It's the off-schedule playmaking. He doesn't want the offense to lose the ability to challenge a defense vertically when things break down either through Arch's legs or the deep ball. I'm fine with that if we had coupled it to power spread scheme almost identical to what MSST was running before Kamario got hurt. Unfortunately, we don't do that and far too often have two guys in deep routes out of 12 personnel while the interior gets mauled or a free rusher blast through on max protect. Is what it is. 1 Quote
Thanos72 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Stinger is balls or guts. He knows his offense is waning in confidence so he’s trying to conjure up “eff it, show them who you are”. From arch chip to stingers to we don’t listen to the outside(while addressing the outside) is a diminuendo rallying cry. He keeps trying to fire them up when he needs to fundamental them up. No amount of gippering will save this team. I can’t help but think his outside life is impacting him. He just hasn’t been the same since last summer. I hope is personal world is good first and foremost. He knows football extremely well and I’m at a loss as to why he hasn’t done what’s necessary. 🤷🏽♂️🤘🏽 Quote
SueVide Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Stinger = a threat that can effectively hurt the other team. A deterrent primarily, but also available to use as a kill shot when executed effectively. Quote

Tuco Ramirez Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago The fact that our offensive guru HC/OC talks about the stinger and no one knows what the hell he’s talking about is very telling. Quote

alrightalrightalright Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago It’s stinger like a bee‘s stinger. As in, “how we can hurt you.” Sark doesn’t want Arch to lose his stinger—his warrior-like mentality. For the offense, that stinger is up for debate. We likely view that differently from Sark. For Sark, I think it’s hunting explosives. I’d love for it to be slants, quick throws, bubble screens, wheel routes, outside zone. Getting the ball out of Arch’s hand fast. Quote

Deep in the heart Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago 2 hours ago, HookEmLonghorns said: Agree. At least in Sark’s mind, the offense’s stinger is the deep ball. Which explains why he’s having such a hard time committing to the quick game, while we continue to see Arch stand in the pocket waiting for long plays to develop. This right here. A stinger in this context is something that makes the offense dangerous which in Sark's mind, is pushing the ball down field with explosive plays. I get it, but at some point you have to take what the defense gives you. If a defense is going to play to keep everything in front, death by 1000 cuts. 2 Quote

Sark needs to set up those explosives with those quick throws and runs. The wingo touchdown against Ole Miss there was an underneath route that drew the safety down and left Wingo open. But that was set up by those quick slants and throws that we saw early on in the game. 2 Quote

jcash02 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Idk necessarily... But maybe it's a figure of speech for the thing they know they can fall back on in a tough situation. Like running with Bijan or Rojo. Colt throwing to Quan & Shipley This 2026 Texas offense doesn't have anything they can rely on consistently. They're not really good at anything. They have sporadic flashes here and there in the run game or WR's. Quote

Grant Ward Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago A stinger used to be a jammed neck. It's what happens when the crown of your head hits another player and the spine compresses. There is a feeling of numbness down the spine. I've had this happen while playing football. Quote

They can rely on the defense. But the implication on offense stands, they have no bread and butter. It’s very deflating. As I said in an early thread the running game has gotten worse every year since he’s gotten to campus. I get that’s partly due to poor OL evaluations and lack of development but it also seems to fall out of a lack of prioritization in the offensive scheme. Sark talks about the running game unlocking everything else but he does not ever stick with it. He’s an OC that builds his rosters from the outside in with flashy WRs, big name QBs and outside zone RBs while fundamentally run oriented coaches like Kirby build their offenses with strong OL, elite tight ends, war daddy inside zone RBs and serviceable bus driving QBs.
