Chris Plonsky is retiring

After 39 years at Texas, Chris Plonsky is retiring at the end of the 2026-27 academic year from her role as Chief of Staff/Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator. 

At Texas she's served as Women's Sports SID, Associate Athletics Director for External Services, Senior Associate AD for Men’s and Women’s Athletics, and Director of Women’s Athletics (while still maintaining critical responsibilities in Men’s Athletics). 

“CP is an absolute rock star. She’s a legend who has poured her heart and soul into The University of Texas and our athletics department for four decades,” Chris Del Conte said. “She’s a trailblazer who advocated for the advancement of women’s sports while also having a huge impact on our men’s sports programs and helping our athletics department grow into one of the most powerful brands in the world. She has worn many hats, served in virtually every role possible and worked with so many legendary figures on our great campus, but at the end of the day, she has always remained steadfast in putting our student-athletes first and foremost in everything she does. Her passion, pride and dedication to the Longhorn family, our student-athletes and coaches, and The University of Texas are unmatched.”
 
“The success we’ve had across the board in all sports — from conference championships and national championships to Olympic and World champions — is in part a tribute to all she has done to support our student-athletes, coaches and programs. She’s a tireless worker and an incredible servant leader, and though she’s retiring from her current role with us at the end of this academic year, we’re thrilled she’ll be moving into a position that will allow her to continue to have a significant role working with our athletics department going forward. We’ll take this year to celebrate all she’s done in her current role and the many roles that came before it, but we’re so fortunate she’ll continue to be a part of Texas Athletics — a place she has meant so much to and been such a huge part of for a long, long time.”

I mean CDC did a good job  pushing  her aside , yet keeping  the peace. But the article states she will still have some role. So not gone yet. Let's see what the role is haha.  Just not a fan , but acknowledge her tenure of course. But it's been past time imo.

Imagine being a woman and making an impact in sports. Not easy. She has earned the respect of many.

CP had a massive run and did a lot behind the scenes, no question. But I’ve never been one of the people who thought she walked on water.

Glad she’s getting her flowers, glad she’s staying involved, but also glad CDC is clearly steering the ship now.

Appreciate the decades, but I’m not shedding any tears over the transition.

She hired some national‑title coaches. Cool.

But the idea that she single‑handedly “developed Texas Women’s sports into a national power” is fan fiction. Texas has resources, brand power, and recruiting pull that would make half the country’s ADs look like geniuses.

She did fine. She wasn’t a disaster. She also wasn’t the mythical queen of excellence people are suddenly pretending she was.

I can list plenty of coaches she kept around way too long, programs she let drift, and decisions that aged like milk

She screwed up many coaching decisions:

Womens Swimming

Track and Field

Soccer - Kelly - 4 wins last year

Basketball - Coach G from Duke set us back many years

CDC gets credit for Softball (Mike White), Basketball (Vic S)

Yippee  - she hired the rowing coach and recruited solid foreigners for Tennis - both those sports benefit from Texas' international brand

She got paid well, is anyone going to miss her?  - good riddance!!

Chris has been a rock in that athletic department for decades and she was a foundational piece for Deloss Dodds many moons ago.

Like any of us over the years, we've made good hires and bad, made good decisions and bad, but Chris has always done it with the Longhorns in mind first and foremost.

I admire and applaud her dedication to Texas in a big, big way.

Nobody cares but she actually played a part of me becoming a Texas fan. Growing up in Jersey nobody gives a crap about CFB unless you liked Notre Dame or maybe Penn State. My aunt and Chris were good friends and I began receiving some Texas gear and then started to tune into basketball games (TJ Ford era) and become hooked on all things longhorns.. not a bad time i'd say - baseball natty in '05, VY '05 team, etc... Long story short, when I got the chance to finally visit the campus, she was very welcoming and would take me on tours of the campus and football field and such. I know it sounds lame but I was very appreciative so thank you Chris!
