Case is assigned to Judge Karen Gren Scholer

 

she is a graduate of Rice and Cornell Law School.

One interesting thing about the judge is she was originally nominated to the federal bench by Obama but her nomination expired.  Then she was renominated by Trump.  She was a respected litigator before she took the bench. 
 

The lawyer representing the Big 12 is a BYU graduate who represented the Big 12 in thr House settlement and litigation.    Should be a fun case to monitor as there won’t be a lot of gamesmanship in federal court.

Texas Tech was planning on playing Sorsby come hell or high water. They have chosen to be pariahs, but why?  Texas Tech clearly lives in a bubble, and thought because they openly challenge Texas that everyone would just be ok for them to do whatever they wanted. 

Here's another thing, they're clearly not used to being the hated ones. The way they've acted out to anyone who calls them out shows how sensitive and thin-skinned they truly are. As a Texas fan, I'm so used to all the hate it's become a badge of honor. For Tech, they take their ball and go home.

Let's be real, this is Cody & Tech vs. B12.  I wrote last week that Paxton's letter was merely political theater as favor to Cody and Burrows and that Tech would be on island to solve their own problem. Now we are about to find out. I don't see how Paxton can align his interest with Tech and then directly disadvantage UofH at the same time (which is a state school versus Baylor and TCU which are private) as part of the B12 party. I would think his only realistic option would be to remain neutral.

That’s actually a really interesting wrinkle - Scholer being nominated by Obama first and then renominated by Trump tells you she’s viewed as a straight‑shooter by both sides. Add in the Rice undergrad + Cornell Law pedigree and the fact she was a well‑respected litigator before taking the bench, and you’re right: this isn’t going to be some circus where one side games the process.

And the Big 12 bringing in a BYU‑trained attorney who already handled the House settlement shows they’re not sending in the JV team either. Both sides are lawyered‑up with people who know the landscape and won’t get cute.

What's better is that Tech is paying 1/16th of the legal fees to go against itself (or it comes out of their share)
