khorn5 Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Seems to be great for a batter. Then he starts to feel himself a bit after a K and loses it. It’s like clockwork lately. Quit messing with the off speed. He’s in to throw 97. Just throw 97! Quote
harveycmd Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Burns isn't calling his own pitches. Weiner calls the pitches. In the postgame, Schloss said the fourth ball on the first walk was called to be off the plate because the batter liked to chase. He didn't chase and the walk resulted. The second walk was on Burns. Schloss said it's on him to put Burns in better spots. That's him covering for his player, but it's true too. Knowing that Burns is a little wild under pressure, you must account for that. But you have to think about who else would you put in and who are you saving for another day. 1 Quote
bevocbs Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago He is definitely up and down. But situations really matter. He is much better when he comes in for a clean inning. It seems like when he comes in for high level situations like last night, he gets too amped up and overthrows, causing the control issues. That is why he didn't make it (and probably never will) in the closer role. But he had a couple of good outings recently, and I still think he can help us in the final push. I actually feel like if they had put him in to start the 6th, instead of trying to extend DV another inning, he probably would have been fine for an inning or two. But I also understand why they would want to ride DV as long as they could. 4 Quote
tsip92 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I understand the sentiment but I’m not a fan of starting threads specifically to sh*t on our own players. 9 Quote

I tend to root for them to pull it together before posting negatively. But I've been yelled at before saying that's what the forums are for lmao 🤷🏿♂️ 3 Quote

They felt Smith was in swing mode and the cutter didn’t bite enough to convince him to take a hack. Someone mentioned it earlier in the thread, but Burns seems better when coming in for a clean inning or with less traffic on the bases. Quote
Burnt Orange Horn Posted 57 minutes ago Posted 57 minutes ago No pitcher is any good unless he can throw strikes. Bottom line. Quote

You have to be a special type of athlete to throw 97 in the zone with a repeatable delivery. Quote
