Clint Baros Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Wanted to get the general consensus of fans on here. Out of the two main rivals (OU & TAMU), which of the two do y'all hate more and which do y'all consider Texas' main rival? 2 Quote
Jack Lala Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Hate the sooners. If you listen to people my age, biggest rival is also the goobers. But I go back to the 60s as a Horns fan. I think a lot of young people are excited about the ags as rivals. 5 Quote
Drunk randoke Posted February 24 Posted February 24 OU. I can see an argument for both. I hate and respect OU. Aggy I mostly laugh at and they don’t have a history of winning. I do wonder if OU is geared for new football. 5 Quote
Wabi Sabi Posted February 24 Posted February 24 (edited) In my mind, OU has been it historically, but these next couple years it's A&M. Want to dominate those fools in typical big bro fashion till they say "you're my daddy" 😂 Edited February 24 by Wabi Sabi 2 Quote

dentonhorn Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Want to beat OU and not lose to aggie. There is a difference in my mind. 8 Quote
drag worm Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Dislike Aggies much more, Sooners are our football rivals. 4 Quote
Jarveaux Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Our record doesn’t look good against OU the past decade . With Quinn Ewers we’ve managed to turn that around. Beat them the last 2 out of 3 games. Should have been 3 for 3 . Hopefully with Arch he will keep it going. The Aggies have a great fan base , but have a problem finding Quality coaches . I suspect we will beat them every time we play them. Quote
Realist Horn Posted February 24 Posted February 24 OU is the rival (bordering state) - a&m is our little brother. 5 Quote

But to the topic at hand... I view OU as our main rival in football but in all other sports I think A&M is our bigger rival. Edited February 24 by Hashtag 3 Quote
FootLaw Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Why choose? I hate them equally. Losing to either in any sport is not okay. 2 Quote

Texas 77- A&M 37 5 ties Texas 64- OU 51. 5 ties 1 Quote
Jarveaux Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Since year 2000 OU has beaten us 17 times we’ve beat them 7 times. 1 Quote

That kinda goes both ways….. several of the past years OU beat us was some of our worst teams too. Still a win for them in the same as for us but they no longer have Stoops or Riley so they are entering our Strong/Herman era for some beat downs to even the score 2 Quote

The most shocking victory in the past 15 years for us was the Charlie Strong upset. 1 Quote
LECHorns Posted February 24 Posted February 24 I bet the respondent's age is going to have a perfect correlation to the respondent's answer here. When I was on campus, we waxed A&M every year and OU was really all that stood between us and a national championship bid. There is nothing like the second Saturday in October. To me, OU is absolutely our biggest football rivalry. I never even "hated" A&M until recently. I obviously never want(ed) to lose to them, but they were really like my little brother -- I wanted to beat them at all cost, but I didn't necessarily want others to beat them. That changed recently, however. Every sport outside of football, I care more about beating A&M than OU. I also bet that younger Longhorns (i.e., on campus today) will grow up thinking of A&M as the bigger rival. We may boat race OU for the next few years, and there are all kinds of storylines beneath the Aggie hate right now. Tickets for Schloss's first series against A&M will probably break NCAA baseball records, just like the game at Kyle Field a few months ago broke football records. I don't even know when we play OU in baseball. 2 Quote

I made my comment cause someone posted something along the lines Stoops worst teams would have beaten the OU we beat recently. So I meant it went both ways in the point that OU beat us when we were down in recent losses for us as well. Stoops had some strong teams and the battles against Mack’s teams were fun to watch. Then the Strong/Herman teams were a mess for us and they stayed the same even as seamless of a transition Stoops to Riley was for them. Their consistency over the years happened at a time we had a bunch of turnover and recruiting was all out of whack. the most surprising loss for me was when we were up 28-7 in the 1st and lost back in 2021 1 Quote

They didn't always win that game, but they have always been competitive. I would go out on a limb and say if Brown was the HC in the 2023 game, that game would've gotten outta hand quickly. OU was throwing haymaker after haymaker in that game. I believe the largest loss for Texas over OU since 2014 was 12 points in the Big 12 Championship Game in 2018. I still to this day, do not know how Charlie Strong was able to get his teams ready for that game and the 2015 win over OU might be the most impressive win I've seen in my lifetime by Texas football given the circumstances. Now the roles are reversed. OU is trending down and Texas is trending up. When OU is down and Texas is up, they can't even compete outside of the first quarter running on pure adrenaline and emotions. I do want to see Sark beat OU when OU and Texas are good in the same season, like 2008 and 2018, but any win you get over OU you'll take. 1 Quote

He may not be here long enough to do it completely, but he will start the trend for flipping this series and set the next HC up for continued success in Dallas. 2 Quote
HDub1995 Posted February 24 Posted February 24 OU is the more traditional “rival.” My hatred for A&M, however, runs deep. I grew up in Southeast Texas where almost everyone around me was an Aggie. I was one of a few that went on to UT. Beating A&M gives me immensely more joy than OU. But, I respect OU much more if that makes sense. 1 Quote
817 Boxing B Posted February 24 Posted February 24 A&M is the jealous stepbrother that we beat up on but OU is from the other side of the tracks. OU represents pure hatred and the colors are disgusting. It's OU over everyone... if we go 1-11... that one has to be BlowU. Quote
Hornmatic Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Agree with all of the OU as primary rival and A&M as little brother sentiments. That holds true for football but the caveat being A&M is a bigger rival in most other sports and their psychotic fixation on us makes them sadly relevant to us throughout the calendar year. They have such an unhealthy inferiority complex that it extends way past athletics and permeates their existence which bleeds into normal every day life for them. 1 Quote
