Why would we want to willingly play Tech? We'll play them if we have to (like we did in the Big 12) or in a playoff situation/bowl game scenario. But in no way, shape or form are they worth scheduling. McGuire got in his feelings because he knows his schedule is piss poor.

Another issue is that this is becoming a huge distraction and I don't want it affecting our game because of it. We have everything to lose and they have all to gain from this.

Bobby Burton put Texas Tech in their place tonight. On OTF podcast. My opinion they are just trying to divert attention from them fighting in court for a QB that bet on his on team. Big 12 should shut that down. But I believe it will just go away . If you didn’t hear the podcast you missed Bobby explaining in a clear & articulate way the TT silly , juvenile challenge.

You talking about the Podcast that started with Rod, CJ and Coach Shipley?  and Bobby joined? So disappointed in Rod for saying Tech was winning this battle.

Did I understand this correctly?  He's already finished his treatment and is getting ready to return to campus? BTW, Joey, yes everyone deserves a second chance.  It's just not in colleee football after gambling on your own team.  As a Dad, I would do everything in my power to keep my son from going from high school to manhood with someone whose core values are so flexible as yours!  Also, did you ever kick someone off your team for violating team rules?

Agree with you 100 percent! ! I like Rod but he was totally wrong. Never seen Rod argue with Bobby like that before.

Texas has the hardest schedule in college football in 2026 by most metrics. Why would they need to add a team, who will only agree to play at home or on a neutral site, that they own the series record against, to help bolster their schedule. Tech knows Texas wouldn't do this so it's all false bravado.

Playing Texas Tech only benefits Texas Tech.  I don’t see any benefit to Texas.  It’s like a 5A Texas high school playing a 4A school.  If you beat them well you were supposed to beat them. If it is a close game well people are ragging that you didn’t beat them bad enough. And if you slip up and lose to them well then your fans want everyone fired. The small team has nothing to lose and the big team has alot to lose. Joey knows that. Don’t get me wrong, with the talent Sark has added, i fully believe we would hammer them but it’s just not worth it. It helps their recruiting…….it doesn’t help our recruiting in any way.

Completely agree. I will say, though, coming from a 2A school in high school, it was always a blast playing bigger programs and knocking them off. So I get where Tech is coming from haha.

Yeah it’s great for the smaller school. I played alot of larger schools during my days. It fun because you go all out with nothing to lose. You can just play free. Kinda like playing with house money. 🤘🤘

With all due respect, that’s a horrible take if that’s what you’re getting from the comments. Tech plays a weak schedule — even Tech fans can’t really dispute that. Why is it Texas’ responsibility to help strengthen Tech’s schedule? Because Sark pointed out the obvious? Texas already has a solid non-con schedule lined up through 2030.
