I moved to this Board because of the BS over at IT with posters constantly attacking each other and making the board unreadable.  You are always going to have moaners and groaners because this is their forum to get their frustrations and anxieties out without letting them leak into their own lives.  But then the sunshine pumpers come along and make things a million times worse with the attacks on fandome and name calling.  Then the back and forth personal attacks take over and you literally have to peruse pages of ridiculous personal attacks and self righteousness.  If you just let the moaners and groaners post without the constant jabs they usually get over it and move on.  The personal attacks are what seem to send everything spiraling much worse than any moaning and groaning.

This is a fantastic site with the best  information in the business, but it has been almost unreadable for the past few days.

I don’t care to make this a debate, just hoping some learn to let things go so we can actually get the info on the team we want.  I am coming on less and less, just because I don’t want to wade through all the Bs personal attacks and arguments over who is and isn’t a real fan.

Same for me.

Just major in reading Bobby's posts that give the down and dirty and the mods only portal posts.  The others are there if you want them but as you say there are those who have too much time on their hands to stress over all this stuff.   I don't think anyone likes the portal as a fan. I am sure there will be changes to this coming.

I'd be a fan of more Mods only threads, especially when there's a lot going on.  Otherwise, Bobby's daily threads are good enough for me.

I've had a hard time keeping up with the latest portal news because I don't live on here and I'm not going to read through 100 pages to get the relevant info.

It would be nice if there was a way to just click on Bobby or Gerry's profiles and read their comments only, but as of right now, it's polluted with a bunch of irrelevant stuff like every single post they've liked, and it's not a viable way of getting key information.

All I know is that when I quit coaching and moved to a seat in the stands I instantly became so much smarter than any coach even with my limited access to what was happening daily. 😜

I agree with how the site has been this past week. I know the goal is to grow the website, but the latest group of 1$ signups are outrageous. I've never seen so much whining and complaining in my life.

You get attacked over here as well.  Texas fans can be annoying at times.  It's not hard for me to see how other fan bases can dislike the Longhorns.

Ah man, it's more of a societal thing than a specific community thing. Every sport, every fan base. There's just no getting around it on the internet. It's heightened right now in college football with all of the unprecedented turnover and state of limbo in the portal.

That said, OTF does a better job than anywhere of making sure the cream always rises to the top. It's good to be in touch with the state of panic / negativity during this insane portal season. We'll all remember this. Just keep a level head and pay attention to the guys who are doing the same. There's a ton of knowledgeable fans in here who know their stuff and keep it on the rails.

Remembering the unforgettable quote from DKR after being upset by an underdog TCU team in 1961 with a national championship seemingly within reach..

"They (TCU) are like a cockroach. It isn't what he eats or totes off, but what he falls into and messes up,"

When somebody buys something really cheap they are the first to throw their trash out in the front yard when things don't go their way.

You’re not alone dude. I love this site and I love the OTF crew, but this has been a silly week on the boards.

I get in the heat of a game being emotional, but there are alot of grown ups that are being embarrassingly whiney.

I had literally never used the ignore feature before until this last week.  It just became insufferable. But, ignore has made it a bit more pleasant for sure!

Same, except for Harvey. That was a mute from the very beginning

Belonged to a few other Longhorn-related sites for a long time. I still belong to another one, left the other almost 10 years ago (no names but funny to see the main guy on YT). They all feature negative, attack posts I suspect numbering in the 1000's. I don't use ignore much, but had to use it recently the other site. The internet makes tough guys out of practically anyone that wants to be. Anyway, I try to take it all in stride. Seems like too many of us like to eat our own.

I agree. It can become a bad habit as feelings and pride get in the way. I loved IT, but I hated the board. OB had the best open board, but you had to be willing to put up with non sports stuff. I found ideas on everything on that board. I had to leave due to the moderator's bias, but I still loved the board. OTF board is the best for sports, especially UT sports, discussions.

I am on three sites. This is easily the best site in terms of not feeling like you have been attacked. You can ignore users. The mods are in the portal mode right now, so it’s hard for them to police the board right now. They will get to it. People have been kicked off this site. As I always say, if you want to feel a lot better about this site, go watch a men’s Texas Longhorn’s basketball game. After you watch that, this will feel as close to heaven you can get to on earth.

I agree with everything you said except the notion that the sunshine pumpers are more at fault.  There's plenty of attacks going around, and it reflects poorly.  Have whatever opinion you like, but crapping on others like so many are doing is classless.

People are people. The only place Texas fans are special is in their own heads. It’s the same everywhere that sport matters.

2026 is set to be the year, and UT’s football program is objectively getting it’s teeth kicked in in the portal despite knowing from about game 2 that we’d have to win the day there to make 2026 dreams possible. So people are pissed. And they would be if this board was dedicated to any blue blood experiencing this level of failure.

A quick jaunt over to Alabama’s, FSU’s, Clemson’s or pick your struggling P4 program will look virtually the same. And they’ll think they’re a special fan base there too.

Every school has fans waiting to pounce every time they miss out on a recruit, lose a game or even go 3 and out on their first offensive series. I have the “pleasure” of working with a bunch of Oh St people at a firm we have an investment in (outside of college football allegiances, they’re really great folks). Right now they’re livid even after coming off a natty last year and a pretty nice season this year. They think Day will have the shortest of leashes next year and many can’t wait to get rid of him. It takes all kinds.
